Thanks to Team JLo, we got to host movie theater screenings for ‘This Is Me…Now: A Love Story’ this week! On Wednesday, I made my way to NYC for the screening at AMC Lincoln Square 13. Fans who attended the event received a signed exclusive collectible poster (pictured below) and were treated to popcorn and drinks to enjoy while watching the film!
Now to the most important part – the movie and the music! I will attempt to keep this as spoiler-free as possible. In a nutshell, I LOVED it. It sounds cliche but the songs do sound like an older and wiser JLo’s ‘This Is Me…Then’. She’s grown so much since then and that growth is addressed lyrically and in the movie’s narrative. It was hard to digest everything but the lyrics seem very personal and honest and I can’t wait to listen to the album to really take them all in.
The visuals were absolutely stunning and like nothing we’ve ever seen her do before. If you’ve seen the movie stills, you may wonder how they could all belong to the same movie but they did a beautiful job tying it all together while also giving each song it’s own unique setting and moment. It’s beautiful, fantastical and out of this world but still feels really true to her and her heart. It’s not all Hearts & Flowers, though, and The Artist (Jennifer’s character) really goes through it. I loved those vulnerable moments and I found myself getting emotional during one part in particular: ‘Rebound’. I applaud her for going there because I can’t imagine how hard it was to open up in that way. I’ve followed her for 25 years and I know she doesn’t like to talk about the difficult times or let people in in that way (and I absolutely respect that) but seeing that side of her just makes me love her more. Other standout moments for me were ‘Hearts & Flowers’, ‘Hummingbird’ and ‘Midnight Trip To Vegas’. I also really loved ‘This Is Me…Now’ and ‘Broken Like Me’.
The celebrity cameos have been hinted at and I’ll only say that I really enjoyed how they were incorporated. I thought it was very clever and I particularly enjoyed Keke Palmer’s role. There was also a special cameo that I didn’t even realize who the actor was until the end.
Overall, the project is quintessentially JLo but the evolved version of her. I can’t wait for everyone to enjoy it! Very personal new music and a new movie with a unique vision and a wide variety of themes, dance styles, costumes, etc. What more could a JLover want?
