Partying With JLo in Detroit!

I headed out on a road trip to Detroit on Friday to see the amazing Jennifer Lopez’s “It’s My Party Tour”! Despite wrapping up her critically acclaimed box office smash “All I Have” in Las Vegas less than a year ago, our favorite overachiever put together a brand new show to celebrate her monumental birthday this summer. Of course, she was completely worth 10 hours on the road!

I’ve been lucky enough to see her perform nine times, including “All I Have”, and I’m not sure how it’s possible, but she outdid herself! From beginning to end it was a beautiful birthday spectacle with dozens of dancers, fireworks, balloons and lots and lots of confetti. Take all your favorite JLo performance elements and then multiply them by 1000. Setting aside the spectacle for a moment, there is really nothing like watching Jennifer perform live on stage. She radiates such joy while performing. It’s my absolute favorite thing to watch. She is so engaging with the audience and makes it all look so easy.

Joining her on tour are World of Dance contestants Swing Latino, Briar Nolet and season 2 winners, The Lab. Each took turns warming up the crowd and also performed alongside her during various numbers throughout her set, which I really enjoyed.

Jennifer kicked off the show around 9 PM singing “Medicine” with a grand entrance from the ceiling. This was Jennifer’s first performance in Detroit and the crowd was incredibly loud and engaged throughout. There were several long ovations where it seemed like Jennifer really took the time to take it all in and appreciate all the love being beamed at her from the thousands of fans in attendance. At one point she exclaimed that she had her famous goosies.

One of my favorite moments was during the “Gravity”/”Si Una Vez”/”Limitless” section. Jennifer talked about how much her fans have helped her over the years. As a fan since 1999, I’ve literally grown up with her and she has affected my life in so many positive ways, so it was really nice to hear that she’s felt that love and support from all of her fans and it’s helped her through difficult times as well.

A very special moment was when Jennifer’s daughter, Emme, joined her on stage to sing “Limitless”! I saw Jennifer on tour in 2007 when speculation was rampant that she was pregnant and suddenly it’s 2019 and she’s performing with her now 11-year-old daughter on stage.

I also loved seeing her perform “Dinero”, “El Anillo”, “Te Bote” and “Te Guste”. It’s always fun to see her perform newer songs and I didn’t make to to Vegas after “Dinero” and “El Anillo” were added last year. “Dance Again” and “On The Floor” are always highlights for me. The crowd always has tremendous energy and it’s so much fun when Jennifer commands a packed arena to jump along and they do!

After the show I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to say hi to Jennifer and gush in person. She was so sweet and gracious and I’m so thankful to have had the opportunity to tell her how much she means to me and how she’s changed my life.

Bottom line – this is one birthday party you do NOT want to miss, so if you haven’t RSVP’d, get your tickets now!
