Top 10 JLo Moments of 2014!

2014 was a big and busy year for Jennifer Lopez! As always, at the end of the year, I like to take a trip down memory lane and list some of my favorite moments from the past year. Jennifer has accomplished so much this year.  Even though I’ve been a fan for 15 years, she continues to surprise and inspire me with her drive, her determination, and her ability to forge ahead through adversity.

It was way too difficult to rank them, so here are my top 10 moments, in no particular order:

jen vevo

Vevo Certifications

Earlier this year, Jennifer was presented with five Vevo certification awards for music videos with over 100 million views: “Live It Up”, “Dance Again”, “Goin In”, “I’m Into You”, and “On The Floor”. “Papi” passed the 100 million mark shortly after filming, and Jennifer also received Vevo certification credit this year with “Adrenalina” and “We Are One”. Jennifer is well on her way to another Vevo certification with “Booty”, and “On The Floor” is still the most watch music video by a female of all time, with over 800 million views.

Adrenalina 1

“Adrenalina” vs “We Are One”

Always an overachiever, Jennifer had not one, but two World Cup songs this year! “We Are One (Ole Ola)” by Pitbull feat JLo and Claudia Leitte was the official World Cup song and “Adrenalina” by Wisin feat JLo and Ricky Martin was Univision’s official World Cup song. “Adrenalina” and “We Are One” both landed in the top 5 most watched Latin music videos this year, with 246 million and 323 million views, respectively.

Billions of people watched as Jennifer performed”We Are One” with Pitbull and Claudia Leitte live at the World Cup opening ceremony. “Adrenalina” won the battle in the US, though, peaking at #2 on the Billboard Latin Songs chart, #1 on the Latin Digital Songs chart, and #2 on the Latin Streaming chart. It spent 10 weeks at #1 on the Latin Rhythm Airplay chart, tying the record on that chart! On the year-end charts, “Adrenalina” came in at #9 on the Hot Latin Songs chart, #10 on the Latin Digital Songs chart, #11 on the Latin Airplay Songs chart, and #17 on the Latin Streaming Songs chart.

American Idol Judges Perform Together

It has often been rumored, but this year, Jennifer and her fellow Idol judges performed together during the American Idol finale! The trio sang Cyndi Lauper’s “True Colors” and “Go Your Own Way” by Fleetwood Mac. Jennifer sounded great and looked adorable playing her tambourine. You could tell they had a great time, and we hope there will be a repeat performance in 2015! Jennifer also performed “First Love” that night. The performances that night were two completely different sides to Jennifer, which was fun to see.

A.K.A.

In June, Jennifer released her long-awaited 10th album, A.K.A.! The album debuted at #1 on Billboard’s R&B Albums and R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

JLovers were spoiled this musical era, with music videos and teasers for “Same Girl”, “I Luh Ya Papi”, “First Love”, “Booty” (x 2!), “Worry No More”, and “Emotions”. There were shows, concerts, interviews, autographed albums, not to mention a free concert for fans in the Bronx! We were able to check out the album a week before it was released, which was pretty epic! A.K.A. showcases the many sides of Jennifer, but especially her strength, heartbreak, and vulnerability.

true love

True Love

Jennifer’s first book, True Love, was released November 4. True Love explores the transformative two-year journey of how, as an artist and a mother, Jennifer confronted her greatest challenges, identified her biggest fears, and ultimately emerged a stronger person than she’s ever been. I really enjoyed reading it, and it’s definitely a must-have for any JLover. It felt very authentic and honest, and it was very interesting to read her reflections on certain events in her life.

True Love debuted at #5 on the New York Times hardcover nonfiction bestseller list and hit all three New York Times lists in its category, including the bestseller list for nonfiction e-books (#7) and the nonfiction list that tracks combined e-book/physical book sales (#7). Amor Verdadero, the Spanish version, debuted at #1 on the Spanish-language nonfiction hardcover chart.

Jennifer’s Amazing Abs

Just another day at the gym for Jennifer, right? Wrong! Jennifer’s amazing abs got worldwide headlines in October, and with good reason. Jennifer is perfect gymspiration for 2015.

JLo BBMAs

Billboard Icon

In May, Jennifer was honored with the Icon Award at the Billboard Music Awards, and I was lucky enough to attend the show! The Icon Award is the BBMA’s ultimate honor. The award recognizes lifetime achievement and an artist’s remarkable and enduring contribution to popular music. Jennifer was the fourth artist and the first woman to win the award.

Not one to rest on her laurels, Jennifer performed “We Are One (Ole Ola)” with Pitbull and Claudia Leitte, as well as “First Love”, before picking up her award. Jennifer delivered a great speech, thanking her family, friends, and fans. It was a very special moment to watch in person, and especially to have the opportunity to congratulate Jennifer personally after the show. It was a huge honor for her, and something that I’ll never forget!

Bronx Concert

In June, Jennifer put on a free 90 minute show for a crowd of 25,000 fans in her home town of the Bronx! It was a brand new show with special performances that included appearances by Fat Joe, Ja Rule, and French Montana. Jennifer performed songs from AKA, as well as old favorites. She really changed things up, though, with performances of Selena’s “No Me Queda Mas”, Barbra Streisand’s “My Man”, and Diana Ross’ “Theme From Mahogany”. If that wasn’t enough, she also premiered “Stressin” feat Fat Joe at the show!

Harper’s Bazaar Russia

This was one of my favorite shoots of the year! Jennifer looks amazingly regal in this photo shoot from Harper’s Bazaar Russia. It’s a gorgeous and refreshing shoot, unlike anything she’s ever done before. You can see the photos in the gallery!

Google+ Hangout

This was one of my favorite moments of the year! Jennifer hosted a Google Hangout when A.K.A. was released and answered the top fan questions. Fans got answers to burning questions, such as the status of the “Dance Again” film (now premiering on HBO December 31). Jennifer answered our question, as well!  Jennifer was honest and open and it was a great experience. You should definitely do it again soon, Jennifer!

Jennifer has a very busy 2015 coming up, with “American Idol”, “The Boy Next Door”, and “Lila & Eve” premiering in January. “Home”, an animated film, will be released in March, and Jennifer has a new TV show, “Shades of Blue” lined up for the Fall. Jennifer always has a few surprises up her sleeve, so we can’t wait to see what else 2015 has in store!

Thanks to all of our visitors, members, and contributors for a great 2014!

JLo Covers Self Magazine!

We know January will be a very busy month for Jennifer Lopez, with the release of The Boy Next Door and the premiere of American Idol. Things are already getting started with a new magazine cover! Jennifer graces the cover of the January issue of SELF.

Here’s an excerpt from the article:

“I still consider myself a dancer first and foremost,” she says. “Well, after being a mother, of course.” Though Lopez already put in enough rehearsal time last weekend to need only a light walk-through tonight, she’s here because she doesn’t believe in doing anything halfway. She goes hard, in stilettos, on a Monday night, because that’s who she is. Between swigs of water, Lopez listens intently as her 10 dancers, many of whom have been with her for years, chime in with stage ideas for the kids’ show, including massive sets of feathers and dramatic mic tosses, before giving them her own tips in calm, direct shorthand. “That’s right, you’ve gotta hit it here,” she says to one of the girls as she demonstrates a hip twerk. “And let’s get in a straight line for that last part,” she says to the guys. The dancers bounce back into place for another go, smiling because—well, because they get to dance with Jennifer Lopez for a living.

Lopez is smiling, too, even though it’s been a long day. Earlier, she filmed an hour-long interview with Maria Shriver for the Today show. Then she drove for an hour to attend a taping of Dancing With the Stars, in support of her close friend, the actress Leah Remini, who was cohosting. When she is done with her dance rehearsal, at around 10 p.m., she will head into a studio to record a few new tracks with Rodney Jerkins, the prolific producer behind “If You Had My Love,” her first hit from 16 years ago, and the Destiny’s Child smash “Say My Name,” among others. In spite of her hectic schedule, she swears she sleeps eight hours a night, joking that she’s too boring to be found out on the town after midnight. “I’m in bed between 11:30 and 12:30 unless I’m pulling an all-nighter or on a night shoot,” she says, which also might help explain why her complexion looks even more flawless in person.
