10 Revelations in JLo’s “True Love”

Now that JLo’s new book, True Love, has been out for a few days, I’ve had some time to really go through it and digest it. Jennifer really opened up, and as a long-time fan, I loved reading about her journey and how she’s grown in recent years. It was interesting to see how Jennifer, the person, felt after her performance with Marc Anthony on the finale of American Idol, for example. It was a buzz-worthy and amazing performance to the fans, yet it was the last time they would perform together as husband and wife. Plus, the book features beautiful behind-the-scenes photos from the tour and of Jennifer and the twins.

True Love’s chapters are organized into the acts from the Dance Again World Tour. This works very nicely, as Jennifer draws quite a few parallels between mounting a world tour and surviving (and thriving!) after a devastating break up.

We partnered up with WhoSay to list 10 of my favorite takeaways and nuggets from the book, in no particular order:

1. Love yourself. This is the recurring theme throughout the book and the ultimate lesson. This was Jennifer’s biggest epiphany and she realized it while meeting with motivational author Louise Hay. If you don’t take care of and respect yourself- your mind, your body, and your soul- you won’t be treated the way you deserve to be treated!

2. Jennifer started planning the Dance Again World Tour as a way to distract herself from her divorce.

3. Her break-up with Ben was her “first real heartbreak.”

4. Jennifer has over 60 songs with the word “love” in the title! I knew it was probably her favorite topic, but wow!

5. Jennifer admits that all of her relationships had a passionate intensity that she repeatedly mistook for her “happily ever after.”
