United Nations Foundation Announces Jennifer Lopez as Global Advocate for Girls and Women

Today, the United Nations Foundation announced Jennifer Lopez as the first-ever Global Advocate for Girls and Women at the UN Foundation. In this new role, Jennifer will help to amplify the call for action to address the needs and rights of girls and women around the world.

Jennifer’s role will focus on mobilizing action to address major challenges for girls and women around the world, in support of the UN Secretary-General’s Every Woman, Every Child initiative. From supporting maternal health programs and ensuring access to education and health services around the world, to working to end gender-based violence, she will support the work of the UN Foundation and the UN agencies it supports. In a press release, Jennifer said:

“Becoming a mother has made me more aware of the struggles of women and children throughout the world. While some progress has been made, there is still a lot more work that needs to be done for gender equality and universal access to medical care. I am happy to be joining the UN Foundation and eager to lend my voice and ensure that all girls and women are safe, healthy, educated and empowered.”

Jennifer’s first event as the Global Advocate for Girls and Women at the UN Foundation will be Friday, September 25th. She will speak at a high-level event focused on the business case for investing in girls, women, and gender equality.

Jennifer Lopez Participates in Global Goals Campaign

Jennifer Lopez is participating in a new Global Goals campaign called “We the People” in support of gender equality. On September 25th 2015, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, 193 world leaders will commit to 17 Global Goals to achieve three extraordinary things in the next 15 years: End extreme poverty, fight inequality and injustice, fix climate change.  In order to bring attention to these goals, the campaign is creating a crowdsourced film where everyone is invited to join the world’s biggest cast and star alongside Jennifer and other celebrities and leaders.

Fans are invited to pick the goal that means the most to them and film themselves reciting the lines. Entries will be edited together into a final crowd-sourced video using footage submitted by people all over the world. The video will feature as many different faces and voices as possible, and will be screened at the Global Citizen festival in New York on the 26th of September and included in a 1-hour special TV programme to be broadcast globally in over 20 countries. You can get details on how to participate here.

JLo Announced As Spokesperson for Children’s Miracle Network

Jennifer Lopez is joining Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals as an official spokesperson to encourage supporters to “Put Your Money Where the Miracles Are.” The charity raises funds and awareness for 170 member children’s hospitals across North America. Jennifer is a longtime supporter of children’s hospitals through her Lopez Family Foundation. She will be appearing in print, television and radio advertisements, including commercials airing during this season’s final episodes of Fox’s American Idol.

“We are so pleased to have Jennifer on board as our official spokesperson to help with raising funds and awareness for children’s hospitals,” said Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals President and CEO John Lauck. “Children’s hospitals are charities and need donations to help provide much-needed, life-saving care and expenses not covered by government programs or insurance. As a mother and longtime supporter of local children’s hospitals, Jennifer understands how donations can make a difference in the level of care kids receive.”

In the Put Your Money Where the Miracles Are advertisements, Jennifer wears a yellow Miracle Band. The design resembles the identification bands worn by children while in the hospital and represents the 62 kids treated at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals every minute. Anyone can order a free Miracle Band at MyMiracleBand.org. Supporters are encouraged to share their reasons for wearing a Miracle Band on social media with #MiracleBand.
